Purpose of the Role
Responsible for the procurement of all raw components associated with the manufacture of our mechanical products (machine components).
Analysing our MRP data prior to placing of purchase orders for raw components.
Negotiating all terms and conditions in line with our business practices to achieve best price and quality.
Ensuring that purchase orders are placed to match the build requirements of our production schedule.
Maintenance of part numbers, Bills of Materials and associated information (prices, lead times etc) within our Sage MRP system.
Providing engineers with details of alternative components should lead time of components not fulfil production requirements or parts become obsolete.
Previous mechanical component (Machine shop) level procurement experience is required
Understanding of mechanical components market to ensure correct sourcing
Proven track record of negotiating prices, deliveries and contracts
Previous experience of managing supplier of mainly component level parts but also experience with service providers
Understanding of an MRP run procurement system
The ability to think clearly, logically and objectively
To analyse work-related problems in an effective way
Recognising key relationships and making conscious effort to build rapport to enable smooth running of the activity
Demonstrate the ability to communicate at all levels with both internal stakeholders & external supplier contacts
Demonstrating tact and diplomacy in all professional relationships
The ability to carry out the role in a commercial and financially-driven way
Ability to assess total cost of parts and not just the raw component cost
To minimise costs and stock holding by negotiation and monitoring
Planning and organising:
Ability to set achievable goals and deadlines
Ability to effectively manage the workload & prioritise accordingly
Ability to work under pressure
Capacity to multi-task over several on-going projects, and able to define priorities
Confidence to recognise and deal with arising problems
