Classic NASCAR races now available via iTunes download
NASCAR Media Group and Turner Sports-operated NASCAR.com have made classic races and historical content available for download for the first time on the iTunes platform.
NASCAR Classic Races, Volume 1 celebrates the inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, featuring Dale Earnhardt, Junior Johnson and Richard Petty (pictured left, with Johnson). NASCAR Media Group is initially making seven episodes available for download on iTunes for US$1.99 each or US$7.99 for the entire package and includes five of Dale Earnhardt’s most famous NASCAR wins (cut-down to one hour highlight-heavy episodes); The Junior Johnson Story; and Richard Petty: 7 Wins at the Daytona 500.
In addition to NASCAR Classic Races, Volume 1, NASCAR Media Group and NASCAR.COM continue to offer “Race Rewind,” a recap of every NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race from 2007-2010 that is made available for download on iTunes every Tuesday following a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.
The seven episodes currently available will soon be joined by other episodes and features, as NASCAR Media Group and NASCAR.COM make more of their historic library available for download in the future. There are 65,000 hours of race footage and other historical content in NASCAR Media Group’s archives. It says that iTunes is just one of a number of platforms the company is beginning to explore in its program to make historical content available to fans.
