Cosworth is expanding its motorsport product portfolio with its first GT Steering Wheel and the latest addition to its Centaurus Power Distribution Module family, the Centaurus 3, which were both launched at this year’s PMW Expo in Cologne, Germany.
Both the GT Steering Wheel and Centaurus 3 are engineered for the same high-performance motorsport market, offering cutting-edge solutions for teams seeking reliability, adaptability and innovation.
Paul Newby, MD, Cosworth Electronics, said, “Both the GT Steering Wheel and Centaurus 3 are engineered for the high-performance motorsport market, where reliability, adaptability and innovation are paramount. While the GT wheel is fully configurable over CAN for broad compatibility, its true potential is unlocked when paired with Centaurus 3 or other Cosworth systems like Badenia and Antares. Our new user interface delivers seamless, intuitive integration across our ecosystem which streamlines setup and enhances driver interaction to create a unified, intelligent experience for race teams.”
First GT Steering Wheel
Based on Cosworth’s flagship CCW Mk3 steering wheel from the hypercar and IndyCar series, the latest GT Steering Wheel is a race-ready product setting the benchmark for performance, configurability and integration in the GT market.
In a motorsport-first, the GT Steering Wheel features a fully configurable LED light bar for real-time visual feedback. The steering wheel offers teams multiple configurations, removable grips as well as full Cosworth software integration. It also features 12 RGB backlit push buttons, four configurable 12-way rotaries, two thumbwheel encoders and six paddles, including innovative push/pull technology.
When paired with the Centaurus 3 or other Cosworth systems such as Badenia and Antares, the GT Steering Wheel unlocks a user interface designed for seamless and intuitive operation. This aims to enhance integration, streamline setup and improve driver interaction, delivering a unified experience across Cosworth’s ecosystem.
“The expansion of our product portfolio for the GT market marks a significant milestone for Cosworth’s motorsport strategy,” Newby added, . “Taking the knowledge and learnings from Formula Racing, Prototypes and Hypercar program, we have created a solution which combines our passion for precision engineering, driver-focussed design and our cutting-edge steering wheel technology.”
Centaurus 3 Power Distribution Module
Centaurus 3 is set to redefine power management in mid-tier and junior race series. The module is an all-in-one power control solution that replaces traditional relays and fuses with a compact, fully digital PDM. Designed to keep race cars operating at peak performance, Centaurus 3 integrates advanced monitoring, data-logging and self-protection features that significantly reduce the risk of electrical failure during intense competition.
Built on the trusted Centaurus hardware platform, Centaurus 3 offers simple integration with both Cosworth and third-party systems, enabling teams to deploy the technology faster with minimal adaptation. The platform’s programmable strategies provide motorsport-tuned intelligence, giving engineers total flexibility tailored to specific event or class requirements.
Providing onboard data logging, processing power and output control, Centaurus 3 enables engineers to take complete control of all power management requirements. Leveraging the hugely powerful Pi Maths and Logic functionality, the platform executes complex output control and failsafe strategies, such as automated drop-starts, power up and down management, light sequencing, and much more.
“Centaurus 3 is a gateway to the Centaurus family. It brings our premium hardware to cost-sensitive projects without compromising on performance. By focusing on the essentials, Centaurus 3 delivers targeted capabilities that meet the demands of competitive motorsport head-on,” Newby said.
