Porsche has set another new record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, in cooperation with Manthey-Racing. On Thursday, October 25, 2018, the Porsche GT2 RS MR completed a lap of the 20.6-kilometre long circuit in 6:40.3 minutes.

With a  Nürburgring Nordschleife time of 6:47, the standard 991 GT2 RS was the second-fastest production car to lap the circuit. Porsche racing team Manthey decided it wanted to improve on that, however,  while keeping the car road-legal.

Manthey fitted a standard GT2 RS with number of aerodynamic upgrades, a custom coilover kit, bespoke brake pads, a set of braided steel brake hoses and an additional water tank. Together, these upgrades form the MR Performance Kit, which is available for purchase from Manthey. In addition, the car was set up specifically for the Nordschleife.

Frank Walliser, head of motorsport and GT cars at Porsche, said, “In this test drive, we simply wanted to assess the potential of the vehicle once more. The result is quite impressive. It really is a fabulous time. This shows again very clearly the exciting possibilities of this sportscar.”

Driver and development engineer Lars Kern (who also set the standard car’s time last year) said, “The drive was great fun. The balance of the car is also very good with the new package. I did not have to take any great risks to be fast.”
