Twenty years after the track first opened, Utah Motorsports Campus is reopening to the public as West Desert.
Under new ownership by Utah-based PV3 Enterprises, the 207ha campus is being transformed into a national motorsports facility. Located around 30 minutes from Salt Lake City, the site features a 1.2km front straight, a 7.2km road course, a 1.5km karting track, off-road facilities, a skid pad, event spaces, grandstands and other motorsports amenities.
“This place has been through a few laps over the years,” said Mark Hancock, managing partner of PV3 Enterprises. “While we celebrate 20 years from the original opening of the Miller Motorsports Park, we also celebrate the final lap as Utah Motorsports Campus. Today, we begin a new lap of this iconic racetrack and venue as West Desert.”
“To date, PV3 Enterprises has invested more than US$50m since taking over the facility earlier this year, with improvements throughout the property,” added Joe Atkin, general manager of West Desert. “With plans for additional significant investment in the years ahead, there is a clear commitment to elevating West Desert as a nationally recognized motorsports center of excellence engineered around innovation, performance and community.”
West Desert’s multimillion-dollar transformation will create a year-round destination for motorsports, entertainment, innovation, driver development and family experiences. Plans include improvements to the existing grand prix track, paddock, garages and grandstands to attract the biggest racing franchises in the world along with developments to add residential, commercial, and retail offerings that contribute to a dynamic motorsports community surrounding the track.
“West Desert has a special place in our state’s history. The Miller family’s vision and investment created a world-class facility that has brought people together through motorsports and recreation for two decades,” said Utah governor Spencer Cox. “Its return to local ownership is worth celebrating. Utahns are honoring what was built here and investing in new opportunities for the next generation.”
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony and inaugural laps, the facility has officially reopened to the public. A public grand reopening celebration was held on September 19, 2026, offering access to activities including professional-driver hot laps, drifting, off-road driving and karting. The event also featured an exotic car show and roll racing.
“We are committed to making West Desert the destination where the next generation of drivers, engineers and innovators develop their talents,” said Hancock. “Whether you live down the road, along the Wasatch Front or halfway across the world, our goal is to build a destination that gives you a reason to come here and more reasons to come back.”
