Mahle Motorsports has supplied its Monotherm steel pistons, Clevite bearings and Mahle Original gaskets, to non-profit organization Greenspeed Research (GsR), who broke the landspeed record for diesel trucks. It reached a speed of 219.411mph at the 69th Annual Southern California Timing Association Speed Week in Utah – the previous diesel speed record stood for ten years at 215.091mph.

Racing among 500 other entrants at the event, the GsR vehicle is a Chevy S10 retrofitted with a high-powered diesel engine including many proven performance products from the motorsport suppliers catalogue.

“On behalf of all Mahle’s teams involved in the project, we congratulate Greenspeed Research on this monumental achievement,” stated Jon Douglas, general manager of Mahle Aftermarket Inc. “We look forward to assisting with more record-breaking achievements well into the future.”

Founded as a student club at Boise State University, Idaho, GsR made the jump to an independent organization in 2015 with a mission to create learning opportunities for the STEM disciplines and renewable energy.

Mahle is an international development partner and supplier to the automotive industry whose products for combustion engines and their peripherals, as well as solutions for electric vehicles, are supplied to a number of OEMs from around the globe. In 2016 alone, the group generated sales of approximately €12.3bn (US$12.9bn) with around 77,000 employees and is represented in 34 countries with over 170 production locations.
