2022 has seen the introduction of all new regulations for the WRC’s top class, Rally1. The cars are no longer based on production chassis, instead they now use tubular spaceframes, with a spec hybird system, supplied by Compact Dynamics, which adds a 100kW boost to the IC engine output.

Professional Motorsport World editor Lawrence Butcher caught up with the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team’s technical director, Chris Williams, at the season opener in Monte Carlo, to find out how it has gone about developing the new car from scratch and the main challenges presented by the new ruleset.
