Hyundai has announced plans to enter endurance racing through the LMDh route under its Genesis brand. This means Hyundai will be participating in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
An official statement from WEC said, “Genesis is actively exploring programs to strengthen its high-performance image, and after a thorough evaluation of various options, LMDh emerged as the most strategic choice for us at this time.”
The statement also added, “We have carefully analyzed LMDh and found it to be a natural fit for our motorsport ambitions and a valuable platform to drive the development of future mobility technologies for road cars.
“Endurance racing presents an unparalleled opportunity to showcase Genesis’s cutting-edge technology, design philosophy and performance-driven character in a highly competitive arena. This project is part of our broader vision for the future of mobility.”
Further details on Hyundai’s plans and the timelines are expected to follow. The brand has been actively involved in various motorsports outfits with its N brand and has tasted success in FIA World Rally Championship as well as in TCR-spec touring car racing.
Although no announcements have been made, speculations suggest Oreca will be Hyundai’s LMDh chassis partner. Oreca is one of the four chassis suppliers along with Dallara, Multimatic and Ligier.
