Mahle Powertrain has further increased its support for the Institute of Mechanical Engineer’s (IMechE) Formula Student event by pledging to sponsor three of the teams entering this year’s event.

Following a round of sponsorship pitches, the engineering firm has decided to back Cardiff Racing, the University of Birmingham Racing and Team Bath Racing Electric. All three teams have strong Formula Student credentials, with Cardiff looking to retain its 2017 crown.

Simon Reader, engineering director at Mahle Powertrain, said, “We have been a long-time supporter of the Formula Student competition and are delighted to be able to offer our support to three of the most exciting teams taking part.

“Some of the concepts that come out of the event are really eye-catching and showcase what aspiring engineers can bring to the table. There is a big job to be done in terms of engaging young people with engineering, and competitions of this type really help to showcase what can be achieved when young people are given the resources and time to bring their ideas to life.”
