The most successful Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) driver ever, Richard Göransson, has been appointed as development and event driver for Polestar, the performance brand of Volvo Cars.

“With his vast experience and champion-winning success, Richard Göransson will be a valuable asset for Polestar, both in terms of our existing car programmes and products, as well as helping us develop the products that we have in store for the future,” said Henrik Fries, vice president, Research and Development of Polestar.

The five-time reigning STCC champion claimed the 2016 STCC title for Polestar Cyan Racing and has, since his first season in the championship in 2003, claimed 43 victories, 82 podium finishes and 16 pole positions.

Göransson has driven for a large number teams in several categories of motorsport over the years, developing championship-winning cars.

“I am very happy to join Polestar. It’ll be a different but very exciting assignment compared to what I have done in past. But just as developing racing cars is a passion of mine, developing road cars is as well. Polestar’s philosophy of ‘From Track To Road’ is a fascinating concept that I look forward to being a part of, bringing progressive performance products to customers around the world,” added Göransson.

Göransson joined Polestar Cyan Racing in 2016 and is now becoming involved in various development projects and media events, such as the latest S60 and V60 Polestar cars.
