Compulsory brake change at Supercars Bathurst 1000

LinkedIn +

The rule-making commission for the Supercars championship has unanimously voted to make a mid-race brake change compulsory at the next Bathurst 1000 following some incidents in previous events. Teams retain strategic freedom as there is no specified window to do the change.

With Mount Panorama’s long straights followed by tight corners, the circuit is very hard on brakes as they go through extreme heat cycles. This has led to some isolated incidents such as Mark Winterbottom spinning out of the 2016 event due to a disc failure. The investigation that followed led to the introduction of a new version of brakes in August last year.

This year, there will be a further evolution of the AP Racing disc to be used in all cars for September’s RABBLE.club Sandown 500 and October’s Great Race. Nevertheless, they will have to be changed during the race in Bathurst.
