Following the success of the inaugural RX2 International Series presented by Cooper Tires, series organisers have officially unveiled a new ‘RX2 on Ice’ series that will kick-start the 2018 motorsport season.

With much of Scandinavia blanketed in snow at the beginning of the year, Sweden and Norway provide a perfect backdrop for the new championship, which will take place over four weekends between early February and early March – with a pause midway through to accommodate Rally Sweden.

The calendar will begin at Östersund in Sweden on 3 February, followed by Höljes – venue for the Swedish round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in mid-summer – on 10 February and concluding with a brace of Norwegian rounds at Ål on 24 February and Gol on 3 March, to coincide with a popular ice racing festival.

Supercar Lites cars will form the basis for the headlining class, with further categories to be added to the package in due course.

“We are delighted to be able to formally announce our new RX2 on Ice series,” enthused RX2 CEO Andreas Eriksson. “Scandinavia is unquestionably the perfect place to stage winter motorsport events, with a picture-postcard landscape and ideal conditions for spectacularly sliding rallycross cars around snow-banked circuits.

“With the WRC’s Rally Sweden falling in the middle of our inaugural RX2 on Ice calendar, it makes for an action-packed motorsport month in Scandinavia – what better way to herald the start of an exciting new season? The 2018 rallycross campaign is shaping up very nicely indeed!”

Further information about RX2 on Ice is to be released in due course.
