Porsche has reached another milestone on the way to the works entry in the 2019/2020 season of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship with the unveiling 99X Electric racer. The design team chose traditional Porsche motorsport colors for the BEV.

“With the premiere of the Porsche 99X Electric, we are taking a big step toward the Porsche works entry in Formula E,” said Fritz Enzinger, vice president for Porsche Motorsport and Group Motorsport Volkswagen.

Development of the ‘Porsche E-Performance Powertrain’ played a central role from the start. While Formula E regulations stipulate a standardized chassis and a standard battery, the drive technologies are developed by the manufacturer.

“In hindsight, we laid the foundations for Porsche’s future involvement in Formula E during the LMP1 project. We focused on building a highly effective powertrain with the highest level of efficiency,” said Malte Huneke, technical project leader Formula E.

The 800V technology used in Formula E is also used in the series production of the fully electric Porsche sports car, the Taycan. “In the coming weeks, we will focus on the performance of the Porsche 99X Electric. This is the next step on the road to the Porsche works entry in Formula E,” added Amiel Lindesay, head of operations, Formula E.
