China GT Championship to adopt SRO BoP regulations

SRO Motorsports Group had announced that the China GT Championship has become the latest series to adopt its GT4 class and Balance of Performance (BoP) regulations. China GT’s inaugural 2016 campaign was built around a GT3 and GTC format. However, that will expand this season to include the more cost-effective GT4 class, which continues to grow in global stature thanks to an influx of manufacturers and customer programmes that take advantage of SRO’s stable regulations and tightly controlled BoP.

SRO’s GT4 regulations are already used in America (Pirelli World Challenge), Europe (British GT plus GT4 European Series Northern and Southern Cups) and Australia (Bathurst 12 Hours). The category is also part of the Motul Sepang 12 Hours and, from 2017, Blancpain GT Series Asia. However, China GT will become the first national championship in Asia to adopt the regulations.

The championship’s links to SRO go even further, however, with both China GT and Blancpain GT Series Asia sharing their final rounds of the season at the brand new Zhejiang Circuit on October 21/22.

China GT Championship will continue to administer its own GT3 and GTC BoP regulations throughout 2017.

Stephane Ratel, SRO Motorsports Group Founder and CEO: “Our partnership with the China GT Championship proves just how far the GT4 class has come in a short space of time. Clearly it’s now an essential component of modern day GT racing. Not only does it provide a first step into the GT ranks for less experienced drivers and budding pros but it also offers teams an opportunity to learn and then expand onto the international stage using the same cars in a more cost-effective way. I’m delighted to see a developing motorsport market like China adopt our GT4 regulations and BoP governance, and look forward to tracking its progress there over the coming years.”

Charlie Davison, Vice General Manager of the China GT Championship: “China GT is pleased to announce with SRO the arrival of its newest family member, GT4, as a younger sibling to GT3 and GTC and join them on-track in 2017. Last year’s inaugural season of China GT proved to be ultra-successful with strong grid count, mass attended events and nationwide publicity fuelling the positive vibes and a significant growth in entries leading into this year’s season. A decent portion of that growth spawns from the introduction of the GT4 class, which will make China GT a more accessible and inclusive platform to those teams and drivers who want to go racing at a reasonable cost. We look forward to seeing GT4 flourish in China!”

The opening round of this season’s 12-race China GT Championship takes place at Audi Beijing Goldenport Motor Park on May 13/14.
