Accelerating from 0-62mph (100km/h) in 2.6 seconds and reaching 124mph (200km/h) in 6.8 seconds, the Nuvolari features technologies inspired by Formula 1, such as the high-performance hybrid powertrain, quattro predictive ride, active aerodynamics and the new Audi Space Frame (ASF) with carbon exterior.

“With the Audi Nuvolari, we are accelerating technological progress,” said Gernot Döllner, chairman of the board of management of Audi.

Hybrid powertrain with four drive units

Powered by a hybrid high-performance powertrain with a maximum system output of 736kW (1,001ps), the Nuvolari combines a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine delivering 588kW (800hp) with three axial flux electric motors, each producing 110kW. The lithium-ion battery has a gross capacity of 7.3kWh. The combustion engine delivers a maximum torque of 730Nm and reaches up to 10,000rpm.

Two oil-cooled axial flux electric motors at the front axle deliver up to 2,150Nm of torque. As an integral part of the quattro system, they support variable torque distribution. A third electric motor between the V8 mid-engine and the transmission completes the drive concept.

“Our entire team has once again demonstrated its technical expertise, innovative strength and dedication,” said Rouven Mohr, CTO of Audi.

The quattro drive stands for “traction, control and driving dynamics in all conditions,” the German auto maker said, adding that in the Nuvolari, it had further developed this principle with the next generation of all-wheel drive with the quattro predictive ride.

Detailed sensor data – including steering angle, acceleration, yaw rate (rotation of the vehicle around its vertical axis, which determines steering response in corners) and current grip level – continuously feed into the control system, creating a highly precise vehicle state model.

If the system anticipates a potential loss of grip in a corner, it responds proactively as an integrated system. The drive units distribute torque in both longitudinal and lateral directions. The brakes stabilize the vehicle through targeted interventions and reduce slip. The aerodynamics adjust the downforce according to the situation.

Drivers can also influence the system with four driving modes: E-Hybrid (fully electric), Balanced (comfort, efficiency and performance), Dynamic (agility and precision) and Dynamic+ (driving experience). Vehicle dynamics can be further refined in Track Mode.

Audi Space Frame

The vehicle architecture is designed for lightweight construction and high torsional rigidity using Audi Space Frame technology with a carbon exterior, which combines low weight with high structural strength.

Almost all exterior components are made from carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP). All carbon fiber components have been developed using Formula 1 expertise, such as the prepreg autoclave technology, in which pre-impregnated carbon fibers are shaped and then cured under high pressure and temperature.

Active aerodynamics inspired by Formula 1

Each exterior element serves a clearly defined aerodynamic function, from the front splitter to the rear diffuser. Audi’s Formula 1 drivers provided targeted feedback during the development phase to fine-tune aerodynamic performance.

Front air intakes ensure effective brake cooling as well as efficient thermal management of the combustion engine and hybrid components. A vented front end, known as an S-duct, improves aerodynamic efficiency at the front axle, delivering additional downforce, reducing lift at high speeds and improving cooling of the powertrain.

The central element of the active aerodynamic system is the deployable adaptive rear wing. It controls downforce and drag across three configurations: closed, low downforce (LD) and high downforce (HD). A drag reduction system (DRS), familiar from Formula 1, can also be activated manually via a dedicated steering-wheel button to further lower the wing.

Dynamic energy management

The energy management system is also inspired by motorsport. Boost and recuperation strategies are closely linked to torque distribution. As an integrated system, it continuously manages the interaction between power delivery and energy recovery.

Adaptive strategies for coasting and brake recuperation extend energy recovery to nearly all driving phases. At the front axle, electric deceleration takes on a significant portion of braking, while at the rear axle, coasting, partial load and traction control phases are used for recuperation. Purely electric deceleration of up to 0.3g is possible.

Braking system

A motorsport-inspired brake-by-wire system enables variable distribution between recuperation and hydraulic braking. The brake pedal is functionally decoupled from actual braking force at the wheels to ensure a consistent and precise pedal feel.

At the core of the system is the new Audi Ceramic Pro braking system, designed for consistently high deceleration and precise control.

At the front axle, 10-piston fixed calipers work with 420 × 40mm brake discs, while at the rear, four-piston calipers are paired with 410 × 32mm discs. The brake discs, derived directly from Formula 1, are based on a long-fiber carbon structure designed to withstand extreme thermal loads without compromising structural integrity or consistent friction characteristics.

The development of the higher-performance version of the GR Corolla drew on Gazoo Racing’s motorsport experience, specifically its participation in the Super Taikyu Series, and input from Morizo himself, as well as extensive testing at the iconic German racetrack.

The GRMN Corolla was put through its paces in Japan’s Super Taikyu Series and validated using advanced driving simulators, with the Nürburgring playing a central role in the vehicle’s development. According to the engineering team, the circuit’s unique combination of surface changes and road inputs exposed challenges not encountered on conventional test tracks. These conditions were used to refine the vehicle’s handling and responsiveness.

GR has applied the insights gained from GRMN Corolla development to the evolution of the base GR Corolla. For the 2026 GR Corolla, announced in September 2025 and launched in November of that year, the application of structural adhesive was extended by 13.9m to 32.7m to reinforce the body structure, and an added cool-air duct now reduces the rise in intake air temperature during high-load driving. Both were the result of applying lessons learned at the Nürburgring, Toyota said.

Aerodynamic performance

In Super Taikyu Series and similar races, and at the Nürburgring, cars constantly travel at high speeds and experience high g-forces. Maximizing vehicle performance under these conditions requires all four wheels to maintain firm contact with the road.

The GRMN Corolla features aerodynamic performance parts for enhanced road holding. Its hood duct, fender ducts, front side spoilers and rear wing incorporate know-how gained from racing and tested on the hydrogen engine-powered GR Corolla that competes in the Super Taikyu Series.

Fine-tuning of the aerodynamics came at the Nürburgring. This included adjusting the rear wing angle, which features a five-step adjustment mechanism, in 1° increments during driving tests with professional drivers to verify effectiveness and determine the optimal specification.

The GRMN Corolla’s suspension employs exclusive front and rear monotube shock absorbers with rebound springs for improved inner-wheel traction during cornering and for enhanced high-speed cornering performance.

The Nürburgring road surface has areas that induce significant vertical suspension travel beyond that found on typical circuits. To ensure high stability for confident driving, extensive Nürburgring tests were run to facilitate optimization of bump-stop characteristics. The exclusive shock absorbers were developed by adjusting their stroke down to a millimeter at the front and rear for optimal balance.

The control program of the GRMN Corolla’s EPS (electric power steering) was modified from that on the base vehicle to generate the required amount of assistance torque even during cornering under high g-forces. The exclusively tuned 4WD control system provides optimal rear torque distribution during straight-line driving and enhanced stability at the onset of steering input at extremely high speeds.

Internal combustion engine evolution via the hydrogen engine-powered Corolla

Through its participation in the Super Taikyu Series with a hydrogen-powered GR Corolla, GR has used endurance racing to support the development of hydrogen combustion technology. The high-load racing environment has also provided insights into the performance and durability of core internal combustion engine components.

Drawing on lessons from the Super Taikyu Series, Toyota increased the GRMN Corolla’s maximum engine torque to 415Nm, up 15Nm from the base model. Development focused on improving torque delivery in the 3,600rpm-4,800rpm range commonly used during circuit driving. To help maintain consistent performance during sustained high-load operation, the GRMN Corolla was been equipped with an intercooler spray system in addition to the cool-air duct introduced on the 2026 GR Corolla.

To further enhance performance, the GRMN Corolla features a two-seat configuration, with the rear seats removed as part of a weight-reduction program. Toyota says this contributes to a 30kg reduction compared with the base vehicle.

The GRMN Corolla features a redesigned cockpit focused on driver engagement, including a bespoke full-bucket driver’s seat developed using experience from the Super Taikyu Series. Based on race-car driving positions, the seat was been designed to provide increased lateral support while maintaining everyday usability. Its glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) construction helps reduce weight, and its dimensions were refined to support pedal operation.

The GRMN Corolla will be available in limited quantities, primarily in Japan, North America and Australia.

The TR LH2 Racing Prototype is based on the same chassis as the TR010 Hybrid Hypercar, which will compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours on June 13 and 14. The prototype is designed to support the development of hydrogen technology in motorsport, contribute to Toyota’s ongoing hydrogen research and infrastructure efforts and help foster partnerships aimed at expanding hydrogen applications through motorsport.

Toyota has taken on the challenge of hydrogen engine development in motorsports, initially through Rookie Racing’s participation in the Japanese Super Taikyu series with the ORC Rookie GR Corolla H2 Concept. From 2021, this vehicle used gaseous hydrogen before the introduction of a liquid hydrogen-powered car in 2023.

The potential of hydrogen engines in rallying was initially showcased in 2022 when the GR Yaris H2 completed demonstration runs at Ypres Rally, a round of the FIA World Rally Championship. Further development was highlighted when the GR Yaris Rally2 H2 Concept conducted demonstrations at the 2025 Rally Finland and this year’s Monte Carlo Rally.

In 2023, the ORC Rookie GR Corolla H2 Concept completed a demonstration lap of the Circuit de la Sarthe, and a hydrogen engine concept car, the GR H2 Racing Concept, was presented to preview a potential future hydrogen category at Le Mans. Since then, development of the technology has intensified, reaching a further milestone with the unveiling of the liquid-hydrogen-powered GR LH2 Racing Concept last year at Le Mans. A year later, the next step in the company’s hydrogen journey is the first public demonstration of the TR LH2 Racing Prototype.

The TR LH2 Racing Prototype will be displayed in the Hydrogen Village before its demonstration laps.

Nick Chester, chief technical officer, Cadillac Formula 1 Team, said, “Selecting the right simulator platform is a key decision for any Formula 1 team. Dynisma’s technology gives us the level of fidelity, responsiveness and correlation we were looking for as we continue to build our technical capability. The addition of the DMG-360XY is an important step as we establish the tools and systems needed to support our engineering work and driver program over the coming seasons.”

The simulator will support a range of applications including vehicle development, driver preparation and setup work across the Formula 1 calendar.

Dynisma Motion Generators (DMGs) are engineered to deliver a highly accurate, high-fidelity motion response through ultra-low latency and high bandwidth, enabling the levels of realism and correlation required for modern driver-in-the-loop simulation. The DMG-360XY system builds on this foundation with large excursion capability of up to 5m of XY travel and unlimited yaw, providing an advanced platform for replicating complex vehicle dynamics and driver feedback.

The simulator will be installed at the Cadillac Formula 1 Team’s growing US base in Indianapolis, Indiana. The addition of the DMG-360XY, combined with the latest LED wall visualization technology, represents a further investment from the team in technical capability as Formula 1 continues through a new regulatory era in 2026, bringing fundamental changes to car behavior, power unit characteristics and aerodynamic performance.

Ash Warne, founder and CTO of Dynisma, said, “Dynisma is proud to support the Cadillac Formula 1 Team as they continue to build their technical capability in Formula 1. In modern motorsport, simulation plays a central role in connecting driver feedback with engineering development, and ensuring strong correlation between virtual tools, wind tunnel and track testing. The DMG-360XY is engineered to deliver a highly repeatable, high-fidelity environment, supporting informed decision-making across both long-term car development and race-by-race setup preparation.”

The renewed partnership focuses on delivering optimal performance, consistency and safety for competitors, while enabling close cooperation in tire development, trackside engineering, logistics and data sharing to enhance race weekend operations.

“We are delighted to continue our close relationship with Pirelli as our official tire supplier partner,” said Giorgio Sanna, head of motorsport, McLaren Automotive. “McLaren Trophy is a growing platform and tire performance is central to the competitiveness and safety of our championship. Pirelli’s reputation for innovation, technical excellence and motorsport experience makes them an ideal partner. This three‑year agreement gives teams and drivers certainty and access to best‑in‑class tire support as the series continues to grow.”

The collaboration between Pirelli and McLaren Automotive that has seen the auto maker’s road cars equipped with Pirelli tires was extended into McLaren Trophy when the European series launched in 2023, and later expanded with McLaren Trophy America. The new agreement strengthens long-term stability for teams and drivers in the championships, which now form an integral part of the McLaren Motorsport factory driver program.

For both series, Pirelli will supply its benchmark GT tire range: the P Zero DHG for dry conditions and the Cinturato WHB for wet weather. The natural rubber of both tires is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and carries the logo. This indicates that all the natural rubber used comes from plantations that are managed to ensure biodiversity, as well as benefiting the people who live and work in these areas.

The McLaren Trophy Europe season will start on home soil for Pirelli, with rounds one and two taking place at Monza on May 29-31.

“Working with McLaren in both Europe and America is a prestigious commitment for us,” said Dario Marrafuschi, motorsport director, Pirelli. “It’s and an important opportunity to further strengthen our expertise in GT racing, while also partnering with one of the most prestigious brands in the automotive world, with which we have long-standing ties on the road car side as well.

“This year’s calendar is especially demanding, with a packed schedule of challenging events, and we are ready to support it with a product that is already proven and highly regarded, while continuing to deliver our customary level of trackside service.”

Expanding Ferrari’s in-house electric technology expertise has created new opportunities for performance and efficiency across its wider vehicle programs, the auto maker said. This includes technology transfer between Ferrari road cars, the 499P Hypercar that won the most recent World Endurance Championship, and the Ferrari Hypersail project, which serves as a platform for research and innovation. The Ferrari Luce marks the culmination of Maranello’s multi-energy strategy, announced at the 2022 Capital Markets Day.

John Elkann, president of Ferrari, said, “We are not simply unveiling a new car, we are inaugurating a chapter that turns our vision into reality, strengthening Ferrari’s tradition of anticipating and shaping the future.”

In keeping with tradition, Ferrari has chosen to engineer, develop and manufacture the main components in-house. The project includes more than 60 new patents.

The Ferrari Luce was designed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the design collective led by Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson, bringing an external perspective to Ferrari’s established design approach under Flavio Manzoni.

The electric power source, Ferrari-engineered engines and advanced drivetrain enabled the development of a new architecture that combines Ferrari performance with the luxury of spaciousness. Technologies derived from Ferrari’s unrivalled experience in the world of motor racing made it possible to contain kerb weight at 2,260kg, helping deliver best‑in‑class performance (0–100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 6.8 seconds, top speed over 310 km/h and maximum total power output of 1,050hp) and a range in excess of 530km.

The car introduces electric all-wheel drive technology, combining torque vectoring, regenerative braking and adjustable power delivery systems. Steering wheel-mounted paddles enable drivers to modify torque output and energy recovery, while Ferrari says the system has been developed to provide a more progressive acceleration response than typical high-torque electric powertrains.

The car is powered by four electric engines, one per wheel, and is equipped with a high‑capacity 122kWh battery, an active suspension system derived from the F80 and an independently steering rear axle. Within this framework of technological innovation, two concepts best encapsulate Ferrari Luce’s ambitious entry into the world of high‑performance electric sports cars: the control of each wheel’s motion in every direction and in any dynamic condition, and the authentic approach to sound.

Each wheel is equipped with one actuator for traction and regeneration, one for the steering angle and one to control vertical movement. The ability to adapt torque distribution in real time to road conditions and desired performance provides exceptional freedom and precision of control. Each of the Ferrari Luce’s wheels is attuned to the driver’s input, enabling the driver to experience a single, fluid movement. Torque vectoring and the elastic balance of the suspension system also assist in changing direction, enhancing the car’s agility and ease of driving.

The Ferrari Luce’s vehicle dynamics have been developed around the characteristics of its electric platform, including a lower center of gravity and revised weight distribution. The vehicle uses an e-Manettino system to adjust power delivery and traction settings, alongside Ferrari’s five-position Manettino drive mode selector, which adapts vehicle responses to different grip conditions.

The model also introduces Ferrari’s new vehicle control unit, which integrates management of the powertrain and vehicle dynamics systems. According to Ferrari, the system processes updates at up to 200 times per second and works in conjunction with the latest version of the company’s Side Slip X control system.

The powertrain comprises four F80-derived permanent magnet synchronous engines with radial flux, delivering a maximum speed of 30,000rpm at the front and 25,500rpm at the rear. The system operates on 800V architecture and combines performance with efficiency, with solutions directly derived from motorsport. The high-voltage battery pack was designed, validated and built in Maranello and comprises 210 cells in series that deliver 122kWh and support fast charging up to 350kW; it has been designed as a structural element of the car. Power electronics feature compact inverters and a DC/DC resonant converter for the active suspension to achieve record-breaking efficiency of more than 98%.

The Ferrari Luce uses an integrated battery, chassis, and body structure designed to improve rigidity, efficiency, and interior packaging. The aluminum-based architecture places the battery beneath the floor and rear seats, removing the need for a central transmission tunnel and increasing cabin space. Ferrari said the structure delivers increased bending and torsional rigidity compared with its previous four-door models.

The vehicle also features double wishbone suspension, rear-wheel steering, carbon ceramic brakes, and a rear subframe mounted to improve ride comfort and handling balance.

The extensive use of recycled secondary-alloy aluminum enables a reduction in CO₂e emissions during production of around 70% of the overall vehicle weight.

Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari, said, “We are convinced that a company demonstrates its leadership when it has the courage to dare and to take on the challenge of new technologies. Ferrari Luce was born precisely from this challenge, offering our unprecedented vision of electrification.”

Dynisma’s motion generator technology provides a highly realistic driver-in-the-loop simulation environment, combining sub-5ms latency, bandwidth of up to 100Hz, sustained lateral motion and unlimited yaw capability. This enables drivers and engineers to evaluate vehicle behavior with a high degree of realism and repeatability, supporting trusted correlation across development activity.

With teams now actively developing cars under the current regulation set, simulation continues to play a central role in supporting fast, informed decision-making. At Enstone, the Dynisma simulator supports correlation with track data, wind tunnel results and CFD analysis, while also enabling detailed work to understand the behavior and interaction of the 2026 regulations covering powertrain, aerodynamics and tires.

The simulator is being used to support car development, setup evaluation and driver preparation during the 2026 season and will continue to form a core part of the team’s technical capability in future seasons.

BWT Alpine Formula One Team commented, “The 2026 Formula 1 regulations are a big departure from anything that we had before and required completely new cars in every aspect. Simulator work is a core part of how we develop and refine the car across multiple areas and is especially useful when there are such big changes. Driver-in-the-loop simulation helps us to understand vehicle and system behaviors and to connect driver feedback with our wider engineering data. Dynisma’s motion technology provides a realistic and repeatable environment that supports that process and underpins informed decision-making throughout the season.”

Ash Warne, the founder and CTO of Dynisma, added, “In all forms of vehicle development, simulation needs to deliver realism and trusted correlation if it is to add real value. That depends on a true 1:1 response between what drivers and engineers experience in the simulator and what is seen in track data, wind tunnel testing and CFD. We are pleased to see this capability being used by BWT Alpine Formula One Team as a client, supporting confident decision-making across a complex development program under the current regulations.”

The SportContact 7 Force was developed for maximum control at high speed on the road and on the racetrack. The dedicated derivative carries the BB sidewall identification, manufactured exclusively for Brabus.

Drawing on Continental’s tread concept seen in the SportContact 7, the SportContact 7 Force responds quickly to changing loads to keep control high and reactions precise even at high speeds. In practice, this supports predictable lane change behavior, stable highway running and repeatable grip under successive braking and acceleration on track.

“With the SportContact 7 Force, we are taking the performance of our most successful UUHP tire to an even sportier level,” said Dr Marian Graßmann, senior tire developer Continental Germany. “The combination of adaptive tread pattern, advanced Harmonized BlackChili compound and vehicle-specific design enables handling that remains precise, stable and controllable under extreme conditions. Balancing everyday use with racetrack competence was our development target. Our tires are the first with specification marking for Brabus showing that not only is the vehicle tailored made but the tires are special too.”

Continental and Brabus have collaborated for more than 25 years. “The Brabus BODO embodies modern coachbuilding at the highest level – down to the very last detail,” said Dipl.-Ing. Jörn Gander, chief technology officer at Brabus. “Together with Continental, we created a bespoke tire technology that perfectly combines performance, control and character. The BB signature on the sidewall makes visible what sets this project apart: genuine individual development rather than compromise.”

The design story pairs a “sentimental heritage with a modern performance brief”, Continental said, adding that the SportContact 7 Force delivers “predictable grip, steering precision and high‑speed stability that translate power into confidence.”

Developed jointly with Brabus, the tire supports the supercar’s engine performance and axle‑load distribution, ensuring that the car’s intended driving power is transmitted to the road.
